Fashion

From the end of the 1920s, showing skin at the beach became more socially acceptable and, for the first time, the swimming costume was an expression of both function and style. Mindful of the importance of physical fitness and personal health on the one hand, and the glamorous trends introduced by the Hollywood divas on the other, swimwear design took a huge leap forward.
New fabrics were developed combining cotton, silk and rayon yarns with elastic thread. These fibres do not sag, they are form-fitting, look elegant and dry much better. Over the years, swimming costumes gradually continued to shrink in size, until the first modern bikini was created in 1946.
